A Shоrt Hіѕtоrу оf Fort Salonga

The name evolved from the American Revolutionary War-era British Fort Slongo, (named after one of the fort’s architects).

The Battle of Fort Slongo was fought on October 3, 1781 between American Continental Army forces, under the command of Benjamin Tallmadge, and the British defenders of Fort Slongo.

In the post-Civil War era the area became known for rich red clay deposits, which helped paved the way to successful brickworks and other trades.  Containers and shipments packed with manure (taken from the streets of NYC) arrived in the area.  Farmers from local towns would come gather the manure.  The empty containers were then loaded with bricks for the return trip to NYC.  One of the brick companies to operate there in the late 19th century was owned by the Brown family, whose bricks bore the initials BBB for Brown's Best Bricks. The family's home on sits on top of the hill on Breeze Hill Road and has served as the clubhouse for the Indian Hills Country Club since 1963.

Fort Salonga offers its residents easy access to the entire Long Island or NYC areas.  Residents of this area can quickly get on the Sunken Meadow Parkway which opens up access to the LIE, Northern State and Southern State Parkways.  The area is also extremely close to both the Kings Park and Northport train stations for those commuters looking to get on the LIRR.

Shорріng іn Fort Salonga is quiet, unique and convenient. The famed IGA shopping center provides the community with a supermarket, CVS convenient store, restaurants and more.  This shopping center is the hearbeart of the area and is in a prime location for the residents of Fort Salonga.

Fort Salonga is best known for the Indian Hills Golf Course which is a private course located in the heart of Fort Salonga. Residents also enjoy access to Sunken State Park which allows public access to multiple golf courses, a beautiful boardwalk where locals walk or run on with stunning views of Long Island Sound.  The beach is also a popular destination for Fort Salonga residents and nearby towns.
